Sensory Integration Specialist (OT)

General Summary

The Sensory Integration Specialist is an Occupational Therapist who has additional training and experience with Sensory Integration (SI) Therapy. The Sensory Integration Specialist is responsible for the oversight of SI training and education to both staff and families. This position operates in a professional and clinical environment.

The Sensory Integration Specialist focuses on pursuing continuing education on Sensory Processing and Sensory Integration Therapy, as well as creating specific training for both staff and families. Trainings may be conducted in-person or virtually.

The Sensory Integration Specialist responsibilities of this role also include providing support to the team related to Sensory Processing as well as providing overall professional development and mentorship to the Occupational Therapists across all centers.

The employee may frequently be required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. This is full-time position and hours of work and days vary based on the needs of clients/business. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required, as needed.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

Core duties and responsibilities include the following:

  • Report directly to Director- Occupational Therapy depending on center location.

  • Work in conjunction with Behavior Technicians, Speech, Occupational Therapists, and BCBAs to ensure collaboration within and between disciplines.

  • Assist with Occupational Therapy Department projects and tasks as assigned by Director – Occupational Therapy.

  • Will create SI specific trainings for staff and families. Presentation of these trainings may be conducted in-person or virtually.

  • Will create additional educational resources for staff and families to provide education on Sensory Processing and Autism.

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Direct Therapy Responsibilities:

  • Provide the baseline caseload target of 117 one-hour billed sessions per month.

  • Caseload target will be re-assessed on a monthly basis in collaboration with Director – Occupational Therapy to ensure completion of trainings and resources.

  • Maintain timely professional documentation of clinical notes for direct patient care provided.

  • Completion of documentation for all pre-authorizations, initial evaluations, assessments, insurance reports, and progress reports.

Skills Required

Include demonstrated competencies and physical, mental, & interpersonal skills.

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy.

  • Licensed Occupational Therapist with a minimum of 2 years’ experience working within a pediatric therapy setting.

  • Minimum 1 years’ experience working with children on the autism spectrum and/or children with sensory processing disorder

  • Must complete and maintain certification in Safety Care Training (train on site).

  • CPR/First Aid Certified or will train on site.

  • Ability to think critically, solve problems, and make leadership decisions.

  • Must possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead and work as a team member.

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, execute on deadlines and produce high quality deliverables with attention to details.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Products, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
