RBT: Intensive Behavior Interventionist

General Summary

The Behavior Technician spends the first 30 days of employment completing training and preparing for the Registered Behavior Technician certification. The essential functions, duties, and responsibilities are consistent between the Behavior Technician and Registered Behavior Technician roles. The CSBS RBT: Intensive Behavior Interventionist role received the same training and RBT certification preparation as all BY YOUR SIDE staff with an additional 1-2 weeks of training specific to the CSBS setting.

The Intensive Behavior Interventionist at BY YOUR SIDE delivers direct Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to children ages 6–21 in center-based settings tailored to specialized programming for intensive behavior support. Working under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the RBT implements individualized treatment plans that support the development of skills needed to access less restrictive learning environments. The R/BT plays a key role in responding to each client’s unique needs, collaborating with relevant stakeholders, and adapting therapeutic activities to keep clients actively engaged and motivated.

Starting pay: $23/hr

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

Core duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to BY YOUR SIDE clients under the supervision of a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), in 2:1, 1:1, or small group settings.
  • Implement individualized treatment and behavior intervention plans across multiple domains, including communication, social behavior, learner readiness, self-care, replacement behavior, and behavior reduction, as directed by the BCBA.
  • Comply with Clinical therapy standards to uphold BY YOUR SIDE’s high quality of care for clients and families by collecting accurate data on client progress during sessions and completing all required documentation per established guidelines and timelines.
  • Ensure client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and BACB ethical guidelines and adhere to the RBT Ethics Code and maintain certification while employed.
  • Participate in staff and team meetings to ensure high-quality therapy.
  • Attend professional development trainings (in-person, virtual, or recorded) and complete related assignments and compliance training by assigned deadlines.
  • Assist with client hygiene needs and maintain client dignity through professional and respectful words and actions.
  • Uphold BY YOUR SIDE’s core principles, policies, and procedures, including health, safety, and code of conduct.
  • Provide services to BY YOUR SIDE pediatric population on a One Time Basis (OTM) when assigned.

Required skills and competencies:

  • Must be at least 18 years old per BACB requirements and have completed RBT eligibility requirements, including a clear background check.
  • Demonstrated interest in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and a strong desire to work with children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and/or other developmental delays.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to proactively, professionally, and effectively engage with clients, families, and team members (e.g., BCBAs, Speech and Occupational Therapists, Operations Team).
  • Capable of responding quickly, calmly, and safely with mental acuity to challenging behaviors and emergency situations or other stressful situations in alignment with behavior intervention plans (BIPs) and safety protocols (including PPE or other protocols).
  • Proficient with iPad-based applications, games, web-based tools, and Microsoft Office (e.g., Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Receptive to feedback with strong coachability and learning agility.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with the ability to multitask, prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain high-quality deliverables with attention to detail.
  • Must meet attendance standards and be available to perform all essential functions during scheduled work hours.
  • Prior experience in ABA, working with individuals with developmental disabilities, using data collection software (e.g., Central Reach), and familiarity with sensory/behavioral strategies, preferred.

Education and certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent, required. Bachelor's degree and / or enrolled in psychology, communication disorders, education, or related field, preferred.
  • Active RBT certification through the BACB and/or completion of the RBT course, preferred.
  • All Behavior Technicians are required to complete a 40-hour training program aligned with the BACB's RBT Test Content Outline. Behavior Technicians must complete the course, pass a competency assessment, and pass the RBT exam within 30 days from their orientation date.
  • Certification must be renewed annually per BACB® standards.
  • SafetyCare Practitioner Certified with no restrictions and capability to engage in all SafetyCare techniques consistently throughout the work day following training.
  • Complete Universal Protocol training provided by the FTF platform.

Environmental conditions/ physical requirements:

  • Reliable transportation is required for travel to and from work and between therapy environments.
  • May regularly lift, pull, push, and /or move 10-25 pounds, and may frequently lift pull, push, and /or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Physical ability to move quickly, kneel, bend, squat, crouch, twist, walk, sit, stand and reach for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must be able to respond quickly, which may include transitioning from a seated position to standing in case of client elopement or emergency.
  • Must be able to assess and navigate factors that may impact safety and security.
  • This position requires prolonged periods of computer use and extended screen time throughout the workday.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and perform in an environment with elevated noise levels.
